Mosca at CeMAT 2018: equipped for Intralogistics 4.0

23.04.2018 - 27.04.2018

Strapping machines suitable for Industry 4.0 applications

Be it a well-running online sales operation or the daily shipment of goods to outlets all over the world, anyone working in the intralogistics industry knows how many millions of parcels are transported every day – and how important a reliable, flexible partner is. "We have seen the logistics industry boom for several years now," says Timo Mosca, Chief Executive Officer of Mosca GmbH. "Companies that turn to us pack and ship a wide variety of products every day. They look for ways of packaging that can be flexibly adapted to changing parameters – different package sizes and safety requirements, for instance." This is where more than 50 years of Mosca expertise pays off: Our strapping machines are capable of detecting pre-defined packages and automatically adjusting strap tension and other parameters. Fully automated strapping machines can be completely integrated into production lines and operated from a control center.

We thinking in terms of Industry 4.0 and network capability is demonstrated by an RFID system developed in cooperation with PSI Automotive & Industry GmbH and the Winckel company. This technology offers customers fully automated management of strapping-material stocks. New strapping material is automatically reordered as needed. This is made possible by RFID gates and network-capable strapping machines that read RFID tags attached to the strap coils. They forward the information to the customer's ERP system, which registers how many coils are already in use and places fully automated orders for new strapping material as soon as stock drops to a predefined level.

For heavy, bulky products
The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 and EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H strapping machines on display at CeMAT are
well-equipped for fully automated and networked applications. Thanks to our own conveying technology, the network-compatible models can be easily integrated into lines. Their open interfaces and the associated networking capabilities support fully automated production. If there is a malfunction, Mosca technicians can, for example, use remote access to connect to the machine, quickly diagnose problems, and install new programs. This significantly reduces potential downtimes – a real advantage in the logistics sector where speed is so important.

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 and EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H were developed especially for bulky, heavy packages. The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6‘s side sealing unit enables secure strapping of heavy products that must be transported low, such as white goods – washing machines or dishwashers, for example. Thanks to its horizontal frame that can be moved up and down, the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H is capable of strapping tall packages such as fridge freezer combinations flexibly and quickly. Since the frame can also be moved horizontally towards the product, it does not need to be aligned with the sealing unit to ensure optimum strapping.

Both the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 and the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H are equipped with our patented SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit. This is the first time that this sealing unit has been installed in a side sealing unit and a horizontal strapping machine. The configuration ensures reliable performance even when used at high-capacity and it uses less energy than conventional heat-welding units. If used only temporarily, the machines are ready for use more quickly because the SoniXs sealing unit does not need to be heated up before use.

Flexible all-rounder
In addition to the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6 and the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H, two classic all-rounders will also be represented at the Mosca booth in Hanover. The RO-M Fusion is a classic entry-level strapping machine for companies that want to strap products relatively infrequently, but still reliably. Operators can use a potentiometer to manually adjust the strap tension, and trigger strapping via foot pedal or push button. The fully automated EVOLUTION SoniXs TR-6 Pro is suitable for strapping packages of different sizes and shapes. It can be integrated into any processing line and wins over customers with its speed and efficiency. A highly flexible strapping editor enables individual settings to be saved from product to product, such as transport speed, strap tension, and package dimensions.

Strapping material and service complete the offer
The machine portfolio is rounded off by our own strapping material made of PP, PET, and the biodegradable plastic PLA. The latter degrades completely in an industrial composting plant within 12 weeks.

Mosca service operates worldwide. It includes installing, maintaining, and repairing strapping machines and training on those machines. Since the beginning of 2018, the various divisions have been grouped together under the ONE Service concept, which ensures global adherence to the same high standards for performance and spare parts. This benefits companies that rely on strapping machines from Mosca at several locations worldwide.
