Mosca at Seafood Expo Global: Proven strapping technology specifically designed for the fish industry


The world's leading fish and seafood trade show is a must for Mosca. At Stand 4-5844, the strapping machine manufacturer will be showcasing two models created specifically for the fish industry at Seafood Expo Global from 7 to 9 May in Brussels: the Mosca EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA and EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA. Engineered to meet industry needs, both machines excel thanks to their hygienic ultrasonic sealing units and robust stainless-steel construction.

Mosca introduced the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA to the public in 2018. The machine has since proven itself in everyday operations. Mosca GmbH CEO Timo Mosca explains: "Companies like MOWI, the world's largest salmon producer, have extensively tested the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA and are now using this machine under the toughest conditions regarding corrosion, temperature and strapping speed. This clearly shows that there is a demand in the food market for strapping solutions designed specifically for these challenging conditions – and that our machines are capable of meeting the industry needs." 

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is integrated into a fully-automated production line at MOWI (formerly Marine Harvest). It straps shipping crates filled with fresh salmon and ice. MOWI uses the optional Mosca automatic double strap dispenser on its EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA machines. Equipped with two coils, the machines automatically switch to a full coil when the strapping material comes to an end. This enables the operator to replace the empty coil later without interrupting machine operation.

Another advantage of the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is the side-mounted strap sealing unit. During the packaging process, this feature keeps falling debris away from the sealing unit – the most sensitive part of the machine – and it makes the Evolution SoniX MS-6-VA easier to maintain.

Secure transport with the highest hygiene standards

Both the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA and EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA on display at Seafood Expo Global are equipped with the patented SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit – which offers significant benefits in food-handling environments. Conventional sealing units use thermal energy to weld strap ends together and must be heated to a temperature of 270°C. This method of strapping leaves melting residue and fumes that can be harmful in food processing operations. An ultrasonic sealing unit completely eliminates these side effects: ultrasonic vibrations cause the molecules in the strapping material to separate and then recombine – a thermal process is not required.

Another advantage for the fish industry is that the machines are manufactured with stainless steel to ensure a hygienic production environment. The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is made of super-high-quality stainless steel and uses a plastic chain conveyor system. This makes the machine easy to clean with a pressure washer. The machine resists corrosion even in coast regions. "The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is made with highest quality, cost-effective stainless steel," explains Mosca GmbH CEO Alfred Kugler.

Perfectly strapped food packaging

The Mosca presentation at Seafood Expo Global includes the compact EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA table model. Designed for manual operation, this machine handles up to 50 strapping cycles per minute. Under low load conditions, the machine can be easily adjusted from maximum to eco speed. The rotating control panel makes it easier to operate the EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6 T-VA in tight spaces.
