Publication of our second sustainability report 2022

In three chapters, the new sustainability report shows how Mosca has promoted sustainability throughout the company. Mosca creates transparency of its developments in strategy and organization, outlines its responsibility along the supply chain, and offers an outlook on future steps and projects.

CEO Simone Mosca, responsible for the company's sustainability commitment, explains: "We consistently advanced our goals in 2022 and laid the foundation in several key areas to make our solutions as resource-efficient and sustainable as possible. At the same time, we reduced our own environmental impact and strengthened our collaboration with customers and partners. Thus, we are assuming responsibility for a more sustainable future and doing all that we can to support this every step of the way.”

New focal points in preparation for legal requirements

"Our latest sustainability report demonstrates an ongoing commitment to our goals – and that we’re not afraid to set even higher standards," explains Ann Mertens, Mosca Sustainability Officer. Mertens and her team have identified, analysed and updated the key issues for the company and stakeholders. It became clear that topics such as dealing with human rights, compliance aspects and combating corruption are becoming increasingly important. That’s why Mosca has revised, clarified, and in some cases supplemented its goals. "We are focusing more on the supply chains and networks we are building with customers in our industry," Mertens adds. This aligns with Mosca’s efforts to fulfil the demands of the German Act on Corporate Due Diligence Obligations in Supply Chains. This act orders enterprises to prevent human rights violations in their supply chains through management systems, policy statements and protective measures. Mosca is not obligated to disclose its processes and efforts but does so to support its customers who are.

The new Mosca sustainability report sets clear targets for recycling rates in strap production, specifies reduction levels for emissions in all three categories (scopes) in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, extends its commitment to partnerships with customers and suppliers as well as to the fair treatment of employees. Ann Mertens: "Until 2030, we will reduce our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by at least 60% and our Scope 3 emissions by 20%. We will also be manufacturing PET products entirely from recycled material worldwide. Until 2027, we will conduct a full review of our suppliers for compliance with human rights and implement measures to reduce violations in the supply chain." The company is already preparing for Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements and has integrated initial elements into the current report. Mosca is not required to include this information until 2025.

Expansion of consulting services planned

Mosca is planning to focus more on supporting customers in the future. "Our aim is to become the most sustainable provider for end-of-line solutions – and this includes consulting services for our customers," says Simone Mosca. The first steps have already been taken. The Mosca TechCenter, opened in June 2023, makes it possible to thoroughly test transport security systems to ensure stability and minimise resource requirements. "Our consulting services have enabled us to help numerous customers make their end-of-line solutions as resource-efficient as possible," Ann Mertens explains. "We are planning to expand our range of services and strengthen our networks in this area."

Goals for the next sustainability report have already been set: Mosca will gradually integrate its international subsidiaries and production sites into the report. "This will enable us to significantly improve our data quality and create more transparency on our way to becoming the most sustainable provider for end-of-line solutions and consulting," says Mertens.
