Reliably securing freight for transportation is of central importance across all industries – for the corrugated board industry as much as for the transportation of white goods like washing machines or dishwashers, or for heavy packages in the construction industry such as stones or tiles. If your cargo or goods are not sufficiently secured during shipping, it can have serious consequences. Damage to your items, to the vehicle or even personal injury can all result from inadequate securing.
Your goods need to be secured on the cargo surface by means of straps, nets or non-slip mats in such a way that they are adequately protected during transportation against physical movement forces, such as occur when braking, turning corners or on uneven roads.
Prevention versus damages
VDI regulation 2700 describes “securing cargo on road vehicles”. Its rules have long been regarded as a standard reference on the subject of secure cargo in road transport. Section 22 of the German Road Traffic Regulations also requires correct stowage of the load during transportation. Ultimate responsibility lies with the driver or with the person who loaded the vehicle, but the holder is also responsible. Violations can be punished as an administrative offence or as property damage at a roadside traffic check or in the event of an accident. If personal injury results from inadequate cargo securing, the offender faces high fines or even imprisonment.
Strapping for increased safety
By securely strapping individual goods or packages on pallets, you can increase safety during transport and minimize the risk of consequential damages. Thanks to the strapping, your load will be more stable and can thus be easily fixed on the loading area. Using strapping for additional security will also satisfy paragraph 412 I 1 HGB, which stipulates that a sender must securely package, load, stow and unload goods, unless conditions or common usage dictate otherwise. Especially in terms of loading and unloading, strapping allows you to sustainably simplify the handling of your goods.
