Seafood Expo Barcelona: Ultrasound and stainless steel - a perfect duo in adverse environments

They are durable, efficient and precisely tailored to the needs of the seafood industry: From April 23 to 25, 2024, Mosca GmbH will be presenting the two ultrasonic strapping machines SoniXs MS-6 and SoniXs MP-6 R at the Seafood Expo in Barcelona in Hall 1D, Stand 501. 

Mosca also provides information about the combination options with stretch wrappers for comprehensive transport protection - and the possibilities offered by digitalized process monitoring. The seafood industry poses numerous challenges for the production machines used - including at the end of the packaging line. At this year's Seafood Expo in Barcelona, Mosca GmbH will therefore be showcasing strapping solutions specially tailored to these requirements. This enables producers of both salmon and wild-caught fish to efficiently and reliably secure their products for further transportation.

"The machines have to function reliably in environments with very low temperatures of between two and five degrees Celsius. Particularly in view of the scarce resources - be it time or personnel - the processes at the end of the line must also run as efficiently and smoothly as possible in this industry," explains Christian Grosskopf, Sales Manager Food & Beverage at Mosca.

Ultrasonic units enable consistent strapping quality in wet and cold conditions

 

This is why the SoniXs MS-6 and SoniXs MP-6 R strapping machines are designed to be temperature-resistant and feature a corrosion-resistant stainless steel surface as well as the SoniXs for sealing the straps. "The ultrasonic unit is not only very energy-efficient, but also produces no thermal reactions and therefore no vapors that could potentially come into contact with the fish when sealing the straps," says Grosskopf. Another advantage is that the machines do not need to be covered during the necessary regular cleaning of the production areas: "The strapping works even when the machine body and strap material are wet, without any reduction in quality. This saves producers the energy otherwise required to dry the machines," explains Grosskopf.

SoniXs MS-6: automated strapping in salmon farming

 

The SoniXs MS-6 is designed for use in salmon farming: Here, large quantities of polystyrene boxes filled with fish of the same size have to be strapped quickly and efficiently. In order to make the process as efficient as possible, even with limited resources, Mosca has automated the reel change: The machine has two separate coils for the strapping. When the first one is empty, the machine automatically switches to the second, full coil, enabling uninterrupted strapping. "This means that consumables can be replenished at a convenient time and employees can use their valuable time as efficiently as possible," explains Grosskopf.   

SoniXs MP-6 R: optimized for use below deck

 

Mosca also has a solution for fishing vessels on the high seas: the SoniXs MP-6 R is designed for the limited space on board. It can be easily adjusted to crates of different sizes and widths so that the fish can be transported to consumers as quickly and safely as possible.

"As the ships are often at sea in hard-to-reach areas with extreme weather conditions such as Alaska, the machines need to be as robust as possible and maintenance as easy as possible in an emergency. We attached great importance to this during development," explains Grosskopf. Temperature and corrosion resistance pay off twice over here.

 

At the Mosca: Movitec winders and digitization options

 

At the trade fair, Mosca will also be presenting the combination possibilities of strapping and wrapping using Stretch Wrapping Machines from subsidiary Movitec: Wrapping with film is a good way to protect strapped, stacked fish crates from slipping on the pallet and the effects of wind, weather and dust. "By offering both solutions from a single source, we can closely link the processes at the end of the packaging line and make them even more efficient, even in challenging production environments," says Grosskopf.

 

Mosca also provides an outlook on the next development steps in digitalization: "Our goal is to provide information on machine performance and condition on a mobile basis and from any location - tailored to the needs and tasks of the operators," explains Grosskopf. "With the help of the close-knit data collection and digital monitoring of our solutions, we can also develop proactive service offerings and help our customers to further optimize their processes."
