Since 2018
Aid project Ethiopia

In cooperation with the international aid organization World Vision e.V., Mosca has been supporting various educational projects in Central Africa since 2011. Following the successful completion of a primary school and reading promotion project in Burundi in 2018, our social commitment continues in Ethiopia. Here, too, we are committed to an educational project for children, because we are convinced that Anyone who encourages learning and invests in good education gives the poorest children living in crisis the most important tools for an independent life and a real chance for the future.

Initial situation

Inadequate school provision is one of the key challenges facing Ethiopia: An illiteracy rate of 61 percent makes it difficult for large sections of the population to shape their own success. In Nedjo, a town around 500 kilometers west of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, around six out of ten second-graders are unable to read a word of their native language, according to a 2013 study. In order to create better learning conditions, not only must new schools be built, but existing facilities must also be renovated and supported. This is where the project comes in: In an elementary school, World Vision helpers are renovating the building fabric with more durable materials and setting up small libraries and reading corners. They are also equipping the classrooms with new furniture and equipment such as blackboards and play equipment. In addition to the construction work, the helpers also focus on knowledge transfer. They train teachers and volunteers, for example from families, in the areas of pedagogy and didactics. The aim is to sustainably improve the quality of education.
