Mosca introduces corrosion-resistant EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA strapping machine with ultrasonic side sealing unit at Anuga Foodtec 2018

In the food industry, it is widely recognised that products are packed and prepared for transport in tough conditions. It is therefore crucial that packaging machinery for these processes meets the highest standards when it comes to hygiene and speed. Strapping specialist Mosca is presenting the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA, a new stainless-steel strapping machine that keeps up with these demands, at Anuga Foodtec 2018.

Held every three years, Anuga Foodtec is a meeting place for the food and beverage industry, bringing together a diverse range of production divisions. Mosca will present its advanced strapping technology to close, secure and stabilise boxes and pallets for transportation. Mosca will display the new corrosion-resistant EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA - one of its range of stainless-steel machines - designed specifically for the food industry. "When it comes to packing food safely and hygienically under adverse conditions, every step of the packaging process has to meet the highest standards," explains Timo Mosca, CEO of Mosca. "When a strapping machine is used on board a trawler to securely package fresh fish, it must not only withstand aggressive saltwater, but also operate impeccably at high speed. Our stainless-steel machines offer customers maximum reliability, hygiene and product protection."

The reliable and corrosion-resistant EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA machine offers considerable advantages for strapping packages containing fresh fish, meat and other food products: it is equipped with Mosca’s patented SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit (with electronic self-calibration) which is positioned on the side of the strap guide frame to prevent contaminants and particles from getting into the mechanism and hampering performance.  With SoniXs, the strap does not melt.  This stops plastic residue build-up on the sealing head, eliminates the release of plastic vapours and prevents polystyrene foam from sticking to the sealing unit when strapping polystyrene boxes for example.

High-quality stainless steel is a key factor for reliable machine performance: "We use the highest quality stainless steel in all parts of the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA." Timo Mosca explains.  "This keeps the strapping machine corrosion-resistant under the toughest conditions."  Mosca will demonstrate the machines at Anuga Foodtec in wet conditions by fully exposing it to water in the ‘Mosca aquarium’.

The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-VA is for use within production lines and can be combined with Mosca’s corrosion-resistant feeding mechanism using plastic chain links in a stainless-steel frame. The machine is controlled using an intuitive operator panel and can achieve up to 52 strapping cycles per minute with the entry-level model. An optional double-strap dispenser helps to ensure continuous operation by allowing two strap coils to be loaded into the strapping machine at the same time. When one ends, the machine automatically switches over to the second coil, reducing the time required to change a coil by around 80% and eliminating the need to have an operator on hand for that process.

Also on display on the Mosca stand will be the EVOLUTION SoniXs MP-6T-VA and EVOLUTION MP-6R-VA, both of which feature the SoniXs Standard 6 sealing unit, corrosion-resistant components, easy handling and versatile operation. An adjustable control panel enables machine operation from either side. Strap coils can also be loaded from either the front or the side, making it an ideal machine for tight spaces.

For production lines handling taller products such as white goods or pre-assembled furniture, Mosca has developed the EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H, the first horizontal strapping machine with a SoniXs ultrasonic sealing unit.  Designed especially for frequently changing strapping patterns, the horizontal frame moves up and down, safely strapping high and bulky products at varying heights. The MS-6-H horizontal frame can also traverse outwards, eliminating the need to pre-align products to a datum edge. The EVOLUTION SoniXs MS-6-H can be integrated into fully automated lines thanks to Mosca conveying technology, open data interfaces and potential-free contacts.

Mosca is a system supplier, developer and producer of high-quality strapping machines, strapping materials and safety systems for transporting goods for both professional and industrial use. The machine portfolio ranges from universal devices with a wide range of applications, to fully automated high-performance machines to form part of any higher-level automation line.
