Gaye Tate: The Only Female Business Leader in the UK Strapping Industry

22.11.2017

As the only female business leader in the UK strapping industry, Mosca UK’s Gaye Tate is challenging gender role stereotypes in STEM industries.

The global strapping market is continuing its rapid growth path, with recent reports claiming that it is expected to reach $6.4 billion dollars by 2025.

As a leader in the industry, Mosca GmbH has been complementing the market development by propelling innovation of both their products and their employees. As the only female business leader in the UK strapping industry, Mosca UK’s Gaye Tate is challenging gender role stereotypes in STEM industries.

Tate joined Mosca as Administration Manager in 2003, after spending 7 years in the tear tapes industry with Payne – part of the Filtrona / Bunzl group.  In 2006 she became Operations Manager and in 2008 Operations Director, before taking the role of Managing Director in September 2011.

As well as being the only female MD in the Mosca Group, Tate is currently the only female business leader in the UK industry at large. She hopes to inspire females interested in similar industries to achieve their goals.

“Anyone who wants to go into engineering or manufacturing should be bold, confident and go for it. Be your authentic self and never allow gender to be an inhibitor to your success,” says Tate.

With over 50 years of experience, Mosca has a worldwide reputation for quality and reliability in the field of strapping and securing goods for transportation. Alongside the current management team, Tate’s operational standards and improved business efficiency, have seen increased profits, innovative operations and sales to new markets.

“Being offered the opportunity to take the MD role really is the highlight of my career. Riding the learning curve and the development of our current management team have been our greatest achievements to date. Our team has really re-shaped Mosca UK in so many ways,” adds Tate.

As a result of decades of skill and innovation, Mosca continues to set new standards and strengthen its position as a technology leader in the strapping industry. As well as continuously developing a diverse range of strapping solutions, Mosca UK have radically changed their working environment, including building their own Training Academy for their customers and engineers.

Tate says the company’s commitment and attitude to innovation, with both its technologies and its people brings her ultimate work satisfaction: “we are operating in a full and mature market in the UK which means our success comes equally importantly from our engineering technologies and quality brand as well as our operational innovation. I hope to continue to evolve the business in an innovative manner that benefits the company ethos for years to come.”

“Our plans for the future include growth in line with eCommerce and the distribution and fulfilment industries and to remain profitable through the Brexit process. In ten years’ time we hope to have survived Brexit, mastered new markets and produced successes parallel to that of the UK in the Nordic countries we are now responsible for.”

Based in Cotgrave, Nottingham, Mosca Direct is the UK subsidiary of Mosca GmbH, providing full, localised service and support for Mosca’s range of German-manufactured automatic, semi-automatic and fully automated strapping machines.  After recently becoming the European hub, Mosca UK is now responsible for Norway, Sweden and Finland, and hopes to grow the business in these countries in the coming years.
