From skinner to strapper: best-in-class solutions for the seafood industry

02.10.2020

Strapping innovator MOSCA and distributor NASCO are stepping up their relationship in Japan, recently showcasing best-in-class solutions at the 22nd Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo held at Tokyo Big Sight (September 30 - October 2).

The exhibit portrayed a complete fish packaging process with, from start to end of line, one Maja (part of Marel) ESB 4434 skinner, two Sealpac M1 and A4 traysealers, one Marel Compact Grader CG600, and finally, one EVOLUTION SoniXs® MS-6-VA, MOSCA’s flagship stainless ultrasonic sealer for the food industry.

Available with numerous options for increased performance, expandability and usability, the featured version of the fully automatic, IP-56-certified, corrosion-resistant, SoniXs MS-6-VA strapping machine carries a dual strap dispenser for maximum machine uptime and a pneumatic hold-down device for product fixation and strap positioning accuracy.

The ultrasonic sealing system is mounted laterally to prevent the core of the machine from any contamination by polystyrene foam residue and other particles.

MOSCA’s patented and field-proven SoniXs ultrasonic sealing technology provides increased tensile strength at the seal over traditional heat welding, allowing the customer to select narrower and thinner straps, thus significantly reducing material consumption and cost.

The technology is safe and clean: no smells, cleaning-intensive melding residues or toxic fumes.

It is also energy- and process-efficient. No heating up required, so no loss-of-time: the machine can immediately strap at any point in time and the sealing unit only consumes energy when doing so.

Highly reliable, fast, and easy-to-clean, two units of the SoniXs MS-6-VA are currently thriving in production at Mowi in Norway, with well over one million straps each under their frame. Mowi ASA is one of the largest seafood companies in the world and the world’s largest producer of Atlantic Salmon.

The SoniXs MS-6-VA was also featured on the Suisan-Keizai Daily News and the Weekly Paper Suisan ahead of the Seafood & Technology Show (subscription required, Japanese only).
