MOSCA Project Competition 2019

Every year, MOSCA GmbH supports particularly creative and integrative projects in Waldbrunn and the surrounding area as part of the company’s project competition. Schools, associations and kindergartens/nurseries have the opportunity to apply for financial support from the company with their project ideas. At the award ceremony on 17 December 2019, a total of 9,410 euros was donated to ten different winning projects. During the event, the winners presented their projects in more detail and explained how they would be using MOSCA’s donation.

Which projects will the donations be used for?

Three winners of this year’s project competition have set themselves the goal of improving their club youth work. The Schefflenz fire department received 1,000 euros for its children’s group project “From Emergency Call to Action”. This project teaches boys and girls between the ages of six and nine how to behave in an emergency – from making an emergency call to the basics of firefighting. MOSCA’s donation will be used by the association to purchase a fire safety education kit and jointly build a training facilty for practicing the use of a fire hose.

The THW Eberbach support association and social organization is also concerned with preparing for emergency situations. It aims to use play to teach its young people the skills that are important in the event of an emergency. To this end, the youth section uses special games that promote teamwork, communication and conflict resolution skills among the children and young people. MOSCA’s donation of 1,168 euros will make it possible to purchase these games and train the staff to lead them.

The youth development association of Eberbacher SC received a donation of 1,882 euros for its “Climb up on our roof” project. The club organizes numerous parties and tournaments every year to finance its club work. MOSCA’s donation money will be used to purchase a professional tent that will make the events possible even in wind and weather.

Time and space for creativity

A regular focus of the MOSCA project competition is the promotion of culture and creativity. This year, three different projects benefited from that goal. The Clemens Brentano School in Neckarelz received 1,000 euros for its project “Creative Time – Time for Movement and Creativity”. This gives schoolchildren the opportunity to discover their own interests as part of the all-day school’s afternoon program – whether in the music room, the quiet room or the library. With MOSCA’s support, the elementary school plans to purchase more equipment for play and exercise.

Another winner was the St. Odilia Kindergarten in Hettingen. It received 260 euros to purchase books on the topic of time plus a weather station. As part of the “Everything has its time” project, the children will be taught a sense of time and their own self-actualization.

Ideen Schmiede (ideas forge) Obrigheim e.V. is also a place where children and young people can literally hone their interests. Once a week, hobbyists and tinkerers from the age of eight have the opportunity to use the association’s workshop free of charge and work on their own small art and craft projects. Thanks to a recent relocation, the Ideen Schmiede now has more space – and, courtesy of a donation of 1,000 euros, the financial means to purchase its own circular table saw.

Commitment to education and community

In 2019, the applications again included numerous projects that are committed to promoting education within their communities. The Mosbach multi-generation house is setting up a learning café to promote literacy and numeracy skills, where people can find a place to learn regardless of their age, nationality or previous knowledge. With a donation of 1,000 euros, MOSCA is supporting the shooting of a film to promote the offering in various places.

The Nicolaus-Kistner-Gymnasium in Mosbach is delighted to have received a grant of 500 euros for a media project. The NKG’s history group has taken the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage as an opportunity to produce a brochure on the subject of “Women in Politics”. The donation will cover the costs of printing.

The Schloßau elementary school received a donation of 800 euros from MOSCA for a project to promote women. The school wants to offer German courses for mothers with simultaneous childcare. With this money, the elementary school intends to invest primarily in teaching materials, games and handicrafts for the childcare program, as well as creating its own teaching materials for the German courses.

Last but not least, 800 euros went to VfR Scheidental, which is always coming up with new ideas to promote a greater sense of togetherness in its community. The club is using the cash injection to purchase a smoking oven for the sports center, which will be used at events to strengthen the community.

"We find it remarkable how many committed people there are in our area who are shaping life in their communities with creative ideas, tremendous drive and lots of energy, explains Managing Director Simone Mosca. "That's why we are delighted every year to receive so many applications for our project competition - because MOSCA not only wants to be a company and employer in the region, but also to contribute to the community."
